“For far too long we’ve been seeing dodgy training providers ripping off students and providing qualifications to underqualified applicants,” said NECA CEO, Oliver Judd.
“The new powers proposed for ASQA (Australian Skills Quality Authority) will pose a big deterrent to these operators, with fines of up to $939,000”.
The Bill will hold Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to account for non-compliance and remove some of the worst offenders who have been undermining the reliance the industry has on producing quality, well-trained tradespeople.
“We commend Minister O’Connor’s efforts to prevent and remove non-genuine training providers and ensure only fully qualified and experienced tradespeople enter our industry. This is an important step in ensuring the tradies needed to meet our future infrastructure and clean energy needs have the skills needed to keep all stakeholders safe and deliver high-quality outcomes,” Mr Judd said.
