Under the program, not only will over 24,000 households be eligible for upgrades to make their properties more energy efficient, but those unable to install or afford on-site rooftop solar will have access to a subsidy enabling them to by a portion of a large-scale solar farm to help offset their energy costs.
NECA CEO, Oliver Judd said “This is a fantastic initiative which will provide much needed relief to many of NSW’s lowest income families. Not only will this funding help the residents of NSW transition towards a clean energy future, but it will help to reduce residents’ energy bills, many of which are currently facing skyrocketing rents, or continually increasing interest rates.
“I urge home owners and owners corporations taking advantage of the program to engage with a fully qualified and licensed electrician and request a copy of the Certificate Compliance Electrical Work (CCEW). We’ve seen far too many non-compliant rooftop solar systems being installed and this is causing issues for a number of residents. With this initiative making rooftop solar and newly fitted appliances more accessible than ever, it will pay dividends to do the due diligence and make sure that any installation work is done safely and correctly”.
