NECA Tasmania welcomes resolution on TasNetworks Service and Installation Rules

The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) Tasmania welcomes the positive outcome to the long-standing concerns regarding TasNetworks’ service and installation rules.

NECA, together with key stakeholders including the Housing Industry Association (HIA) and Wilson Homes, have been advocating strongly for change on behalf of contractors, builders, and consumers.

Restrictions preventing private submains from being installed on TasNetworks’ infrastructure poles created unnecessary confusion, project delays, safety concerns, and significant financial burdens for Tasmanian consumers. A review of these restrictions by the Tasmanian Government has delivered a much simpler approach for the state’s electrical contracting sector and the broader community

We are thrilled to confirm that our concerns have been heard, and the matter has been resolved. This outcome means electrical contractors and builders can now move forward with greater clarity, efficiency, and confidence in delivering projects across Tasmania.

NECA Tasmania Executive Director, Ben Shaw, said:

“We are really excited that this issue has now been resolved. It has been a long fight, but the result will make a real difference on the ground. Contractors can now get on with the job, consumers will face fewer unnecessary costs, and much-needed housing projects won’t be held up by avoidable red tape,” NECA Tasmania Executive Director, Ben Shaw, said.

NECA Tasmania extends its sincere thanks to the Hon. Nick Duigan, Minister for Energy and Renewables, and TasNetworks CEO Sean McGoldrick, for their diligent work and leadership in getting this matter over the line.

“This outcome is a great example of government, industry, and TasNetworks working together to achieve practical solutions that support the needs of Tasmanians,” Mr Shaw said.

This resolution marks a significant win for the electrical contracting industry, the building and construction sector, and most importantly, Tasmanian consumers. NECA Tasmania looks forward to continuing to work collaboratively with government and industry partners to ensure regulatory frameworks are clear, safe, and supportive of housing delivery across the state.
