This month’s Risk Focus delivery centres on Incident and Injury Management, providing members with three targeted toolbox talks designed to strengthen how incidents, near misses and high risk events are responded to, reported and prevented.
 
These sessions focus on early intervention, clear response during critical moments, and legal reporting obligations - because how an incident is managed in the first few minutes can determine the outcome for workers, the business, and compliance.
 
Together, these resources support safer decision making on site, stronger incident response capability, and a more mature safety culture. 

This session reinforces why all hazards, near misses, incidents and injuries must be reported early - before harm escalates. Workers explore how unreported hazards, normalised workarounds and delayed action can lead to serious injuries and prosecutions, and how proper reporting drives real system improvements. 

Key themes: hazard reporting, root cause analysis, learning from incidents, leadership accountability.

A practical breakdown of what constitutes a notifiable incident under WHS laws and what must happen when one occurs. Using a real regulatory case study, this talk highlights common failures such as delayed notification and disturbing the incident scene, and the serious consequences that follow. 

Key themes: legal obligations, immediate notification, scene preservation, regulator compliance.

This session focuses on what to do when things go wrong - serious injuries, medical emergencies, electrical incidents or regulator attendance. Workers and supervisors are walked through a clear, structured 5 step crisis response, ensuring people are protected, confusion is reduced, and the situation is controlled professionally. 

Key themes: emergency response, leadership under pressure, communication, escalation and support.
