Enterprise Bargaining Update
NECA wishes to update members following last Wednesday’s conciliation at the Fair Work Commission concerning the proposed multi enterprise agreement for our sector.
Participating employers have made clear that their objective is to reach an agreement amicably and without unnecessary delay, so that employees receive appropriate wage increases and improved conditions as soon as possible. You can view their correspondence EBA-Letter-to-employees_.pdf.
During conciliation, employers proposed bargaining arrangements limited to Sydney construction workers on projects exceeding $125 million within the County of Cumberland. That proposal was not accepted. A broader proposal covering projects over $125 million within the County of Cumberland and Regional New South Wales was then advanced. This was also not accepted.
The intent of these proposals is to deliver strong wages and conditions for employees while maintaining a level playing field for major electrical contractors undertaking large scale construction projects. Members will be aware that the Electrical Trades Union is seeking significantly broader coverage across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Based on current information, this proposed scope extends beyond the nature of the work performed by many contractors and raises serious questions regarding workability, competitive neutrality and project viability.
It is also noted that employees reportedly voted on a log of claims at an ETU meeting in May 2025. That log of claims has not been provided to the employers involved, limiting transparency and informed engagement in the bargaining process.
The Fair Work Commission is presently considering next steps.
NECA continues to advocate for outcomes that protect member businesses, preserve industry sustainability and ensure that enterprise bargaining remains lawful, targeted and commercially workable. We remain committed to constructive engagement and will continue to keep members informed as developments occur.
