EGT Apprentice Wins State Award

For an apprentice, years of hard work and discipline are invested in training and working towards the goal of being a fully qualified tradesperson. These apprentices are essential for our State and its future.

The Department of Education and Training recognises and rewards outstanding achievements of apprentices, trainees and vocational students, and the contribution to training made by trainers, training organisations and employers in holding the WA Training Awards Presentation Dinner, an annual event which shines the light on rising stars.

Blake McCarthy, an Electrical Group Training (EGT) apprentice, took the award for the 2009 WA Apprentice of The Year, taking home a $7000.00 study grant and a $400 cash prize. He will now represent WA in the National Training Awards being held in Canberra in November.

Blake was recognised for his volunteer work with Armadale Fire & Rescue Service while completing his apprenticeship with host employer, the Water Corporation.

This is EGT's first success in these awards in its twenty year history and ten years since an electrical apprentice won the award.

Congratulations Blake and good luck in Canberra.
