NECA welcomes new National President

Today, peak industry body the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) officially welcomed Mr Stephen Griffiths as the new National President.

Mr Griffiths was elected by NECA members for the 2010/2011 year and replaces former NECA President Mr John Robinson who held the position for two years.

Mr Griffiths who owns an electrical contracting company based in Sydney is the current President of NECA New South Wales and has been an active state board member for several years. Mr Griffiths has been a member of NECA for 17 years.

The National President comes to the role at an interesting time in politics. The agendas of the National Broadband Network and national licensing are just two of the extensive challenges facing the electrical and communications industry.

During his welcome Mr Griffiths paid tribute to his predecessor former National President John Robinson.

“John came into the role at a time of great change for NECA and has been a steady influence during the significant growth of national operations, and this was important for the development of our industry,” Mr Griffiths said.

In taking up the new position, Mr Griffiths said that he understands the issues facing electrical and communications contractors and is keen to provide leadership to help advance the industry.

“I can empathise with business owners because I run a business myself. This is one of the key factors why NECA is such an effective national peak organisation because it is run by contractors for contractors.”

Mr Greg Kempton has been elected to the National Vice President role. Mr Kempton manages an electrical contracting company in Canberra.
