Post-apprenticeship Awards

Post-Apprenticeship Awards program

The ElectroComms Contracting Foundation offers awards, or scholarships, to support individuals in the industry to further their knowledge and career prospects.

The Post-apprenticeship Awards program is an initiative of the Foundation, which aims to enhance the ability of the industry to face the challenges of the future in a positive and profitable fashion. Through training people at all levels and providing opportunities to share experiences via mentoring and networking avenues, the Foundation hopes to positively direct the future of the industry and its service to the public.

About the awards

The Post-Apprenticeship Awards are specifically designed to assist in the development of managerial skills, however, other areas of study or training will be considered.

The Awards contribute to, or cover, the costs of further tuition that may be undertaken after the completion of an electrical apprenticeship. The Awards also include a valuable mentoring system, where industry leaders offer their time and support, as required, to discuss challenges in the industry and to offer assistance, support and motivation.

Applications are invited from individuals who have completed, or are about to complete, their electrical trade qualifications and are continuing their studies to develop their knowledge and expertise in a specific area of the industry.

Eligibility

To be considered for an award, applicants need to demonstrate that they meet the following criteria:

  • High quality trade skills
  • Excellent results at TAFE or other educational institution
  • An ability to perform well in the workplace
  • A high interest in and understanding of the industry
  • A willingness to promote the industry.

Additionally, the proposed further study should ideally address one of the broad areas outlined below:

  • Management skills enhancement directed at producing more efficient, productive and competitive businesses
  • Technical skills enhancement to enable the business to compete in a marketplace where design and innovation are highly regarded.

Application process

Applicants need to complete the following:

  • Application form
  • Two referee reports
  • Curriculum Vitae, and
  • Brief submission outlining the reasons you believe you are eligible for the Award. This might include:  a brief outline of the reasons for completing the study, potential benefits to the applicant, the employer and the industry, and anticipated outcomes.

Applications are held each year (scholarships for 2010 have now closed), after which time the Foundation's Council will assess the applicants and make awards based on the above criteria as they deem appropriate.
